Historisches Längen-, Raum- und Flächenmass. Entsprach 6 Fuss, also etwa 1,80 Meter.

Als Längenmass geht das Klafter auf die Spanne der ausgestreckten Arme eines erwachsenen Mannes zurück. Es wird heute noch als Raummass für Brennholz verwendet.

As a measure of length, the Klafter derives from the span of the outstretched arms of a grown man. It is still used as a measure of volume for firewood (cord).
