Feuerspritze von Messrs. G Perry and Brothers

Eine von der kanadischen Firma Messrs. G Perry and Brothers mit Sitz in Montreal hergestellte Feuerspritze.

Die von vierzig Personen betriebene Feuerspritze hat an der Weltausstellung 1851 in London für grosses Aufsehen gesorgt, da keine andere Feuerspritze so viel Wasser pro Mann und einen so weiten Wasserstrahl (60 Meter weit) werfen konnte. Dafür brachte sie der kanadischen Firma eine Auszeichnung in Form einer Medaille.

Diese Feuerspritze war für Johann Conrad Fischer interessant, da er in seinem Werk in Mühlental auch Feuerwehrgeräte gebaut hatte. Er äussert sich in seinem Tagebuch von 1851 verwundert zum kanadischen Modell: «Wie alle [40 Mann] das ihnen zukommende Moment von Kraft in Anwendung bringen können, ist mir unbegreiflich.» (S. 72).

A fire pump produced by the Canadian firm of Messrs. G Perry and Brothers, which was located Montreal.

The fire pump, which needed forty people to operate it, made a big splash at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, because no other fire extinguisher could project so much water per man or such a long stream of water (a distance of 60 metres). This achievement gained the Canadian firm an award in the form of a medal.

The fire pump interested Johann Conrad Fischer because he had also built fire extinguishers in his Mühlental factory. In his 1851 Journal, he expressed his astonishment at the Canadian model: “How all 40 (men) can coordinate their efforts is something I do not grasp.” (P. 72).
