Platin
Chemisches Element (Pt) und Metall, dessen Erforschung und Verarbeitung in Europa erst im 18. Jahrhundert begann.
Zu Johann Conrad Fischers Zeiten war Platin ein vergleichsweise junges und unbekanntes Metall. Antonio de Ulloa war ihm auf seinen Reisen in Südamerika begegnet und veröffentlichte 1748 einen Bericht darüber. Einer breiten Gelehrtenschaft wurde das Metall bekannt durch einen Bericht von William Brownrigg in den Transactions of the Royal Society. Wegen der hohen Schmelztemperatur von Platin begann seine gewerbliche Verwertung erst gegen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts.

At the time of Johann Conrad Fischer, platinum was a relatively new and uninvestigated metal. Antonio de Ulloa had encountered it on his travels in South America and in 1748 pulished a report on the metal. It became known to a wider scholarly public through a report by William Brownrigg in the Transactions of the Royal Society. Owing to its high melting point, the commercial exploitation of platinum only began towards the end of the 18th century.
