Trivialname für Kaliumcarbonat. Alkali und Kaliumsalz der Kohlensäure. Zusatz in vielen industriellen Prozessen wie z. B. zur Seifen-, Glas-, Farb- und Textilherstellung.
Der Name Pottasche stammt von der traditionellen Herstellungsmethode durch Waschen und Eindampfen von Holz- und Seetangasche.
