Brunels Dampfmaschine
Brunel’s steam engine
A steam engine developed by Marc Isambard Brunel for digging the Thames Tunnel.
A particular feature of the steam engine was that it had two cylinders at an angle to each other that acted directly on a crank shaft, rather than on a larger flywheel. This meant that the machine took up less space in the narrow tunnel. The machine was built by Taylor & Martineau.
Johann Conrad Fischer saw the machine in 1825.
