Schadow, Jury: Quadriga
A group of copper figures on the Brandenburg Gate, consisting of a quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses, with the goddess of victory.
The sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow produced the model, and the coppersmith Wilhelm Ernst Emanuel Jury was responsible for the work in copper. The Quadriga was unveiled in 1793.
During his journeyman travels, Johann Conrad Fischer sought to work with the famous coppersmith Jury, so that he could be involved in the production of the Quadriga. In the end, though, he found employment with Sasse in Potsdam.
The original figure was almost completely destroyed in World War Two, and the figure now adorning the Brandenburg Gate is a reconstruction cast after the original.
