Stirlings Toughened Iron

Mischung aus Guss- und Schmiedeeisen.

Das Toughened Iron wurde von John Davy Morries Stirling erfunden und 1845 patentiert. Dieser für jene Zeit ungewöhnlich fester Eisenguss erhielt Stirling indem er dem Gusseisen Schmiedeeisenreste hinzufügte.

Stirling’s toughened iron

A mixture of cast and wrought iron.

Toughened iron was invented by John Davy Morries Stirling and patented in 1845. Stirling obtained this iron casting, unusually tough for that time, by adding wrought iron residues to the cast iron.
