Shakespeare’s Jest Book

Buch aus der frühen Tudor-Zeit mit dem Titel Tales and Quicke Answeres, besser bekannt unter dem Namen The Hundred Merry Tales.

Die spätere Assoziation mit Shakespeare gründet auf einer Passage in seinem Stück Much Ado About Nothing, wo das Werk erwähnt wird.

In neuerer Zeit erstmals wieder 1814 in einer kleinen Ausgabe von fünfzig Stück aufgelegt, wie Johann Conrad Fischer in seinem Tagebuch erwähnt. Die Quelle für diese Edition war eine Ausgabe in der Kollektion des Marquis of Blandford (ehem. Roxburghe Collection).

Shakespeare’s Jest Book

A book from the early Tudor period entitled Tales and Quicke Answeres*, better known by the name The Hundred Merry Tales.

The association with Shakespeare is based on a passage in his play Much Ado About Nothing, where the book is mentioned.

It was republished again in 1814 in a small edition of fifty copies, as Johann Conrad Fischer mentions in his journal. This reprint was based on an edition in the collection of the Marquis of Blandford (formerly the Roxburghe Collection).
