Kattundruck

Verfahren zum Drucken von Mustern auf weissem Baumwollgewebe (Kattun).

Das Produkt war nach seinem Ursprungsgebiet in Indien als Kaliko oder Indienne bekannt. In England wurde der Kattundruck mit Walzen ab 1785 angewandt. Dabei gravierte man das Muster statt auf Platten auf Kupferwalzen. Der Baumwollstoff lief durch die Walzen, wodurch mehr Baumwollstoff in derselben Zeit bedruckt werden konnte als mit einer Kupferplatte.

A process for printing patterns on white cotton fabrics.

The name calico or indienne derived from the place of origin in India. English manufacturers began printing calico with rollers in 1785. The pattern was engraved on copper rollers rather than plates. The cotton fabric passed through the rollers, allowing the printing of more cotton in the same time than was possible with a copper plate.
