Das Werk Birch im Mühlental wurde 1906 zur Entlastung der Stahlgiesserei im Werk I erstellt und war für den Kleinstahlguss bestimmt. Später wurde der Betrieb vergrössert, unter anderem 1924 mit einem Anbau.
Die Weltwirtschaftskrise in den 1930er-Jahren führte zur vollständigen Stilllegung des Werkes Birch. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde darin eine Leichtmetallgiesserei eingerichtet.
