Hyper-Oxygenated Muriatic Acid
An obsolete term for potassium chlorate; one ingredient in percussion caps for percussion firearms, where the mixture consisted of potassium chlorate, sulphur and charcoal.
The obsolte term was coined by Antoine Lavoisier and suggested by the Latin word ‘muria’ for brine and on the analogy of ‘acide muriatique’ for hydrochloric acid.
The English term is hyper-oxygenated, or hyperoxygenized, muriatic acid.
